my hometown is lhasa, the largest city on the roof of the world. it is the heart and soul of tibet. i think lhasa is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. it is surrounded by towering mountains and rarely a day goes by when you don’ t see the deep blue sky. lhasa river is flowing quietly around the city.

lhasa is the mixture of tradition and fashion.

Hello, schoolmates and teachers.

Good afternoon, everybody!

I'm Pang Qiyuan, from Class 2, Senior 3.

Today I'm very happy here to talk about my dream. I hope you can support me and do me a favor, OK?

Dream likes a beautiful flower. Different people have different dreams. They make the earth colorful and wonderful. A dream is a target in life, in which it can give people power. It can show people the directions and final destinations.

Ladies and Gentlemen: My topic is Honesty.

As a correspondent of the Qingdao Morning News, I visited Dr. James Gilman, the President of the International Committee for Marco Polo Studies in England. In this picture, this is James, and this is me and we are looking at a dragon’s tooth. This is a true story.

65 years ago, James lived in Qingdao. Then he was only 5 years old. He often visited the Aquarium and was fascinated by a creature on display there, which he thought was a dragon. He was afraid of its sharp teeth and wanted one to keep as a treasure.

In the late 1930s, when the Japanese occupied Qingdao, his family had to leave. On his last day in Qingdao, he ran to the Aquarium and pulled out one of the teeth from the dragon’s mouth.

Perhaps the sky is still blue, but I can see the black sky. Perhaps the flowers are still beautiful, but I can see the ugly flowers. Perhaps the sun still shines, but there’s no sun in my world. Perhaps the world doesn’t change, but my world is changing. The exam has been over, but I can’t wake up because I think I did very badly.

I am a chef and a food policy guy, but I come from a whole family of teachers. My sister is a special ed teacher in Chicago. My father just retired after 25 years teaching fifth grade. My aunt and uncle were professors. My cousins all teach. Everybody in my family, basically, teaches except for me. They taught me that the only way to get the right answers is to ask the right questions.

So what are the right questions when it comes to improving the educational outcomes for our children? There's obviously many important questions, but I think the following is a good place to start...

Good morning. Ladies and gentlemen. Life has its ups and downs. I bet everyone here has gone through success and failures, am I right? Therefore, what's your understanding of success and failure? What do you think is the biggest success in one's life? XXX, can you share your idea with us?

Hi. I'm here to talk to you about the importance of praise, admiration and thank you, and having it be specific and genuine.

And the way I got interested in this was, I noticed in myself, when I was growing up, and until about a few years ago, that I would want to say thank you to someone, I would want to praise them, I would want to take in their praise of me and I'd just stop it. And I asked myself, why? I felt shy, I felt embarrassed. And then my question became, am I the only one who does this? So, I decided to investigate....

Failure is what often happens.it is everywhere in your life.students may fail in exams, science may fail in their researchwork, and athletes may fail in competitions.

Although failure happens to everyone, attitudes towards failure are various. some people don't think their failure is a very important thing at all. so they pay no attention to it. as a result, they will have the same failure a previously later.they spend their thime and energy on useless things and they may really be fools as they have thought.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good morning!

I’m very glad to stand here and give you a short speech. Man’s life is a proceof growing up, actually I’m standing here is a growth. If a person’s life must constituted by various choices, then I grow up along with these choices. Once I hope I can study in a college in future, however that’s passed, as you know I come here, now I wonder what the future holds for me. When I come to this school, I told to myself: this my near future, all starts here. Following I will learn to become a man, a integrated man, who has a fine body, can take on important task, has independent thought, an open mind, intensive thought, has the ability to judge right and wrong, has a perfect job. Once my teacher said :” you are not sewing, you are stylist; never forget which you should lay out to people is your thought, not craft.” I will put my personality with my interest and ability into my study, during these proceI will combine learning with doing. If I can achieve this “future”, I think that I really grow up. And I deeply believe kindred, good-fellowship and love will perfection and happy in the future. How to say future? Maybe it’s a nice wish. Lets make up our minds, stick to it and surely well enjoy our life.

The opening of a speech is one of its two most important parts. There are many great ways to begin, and for each great beginning, there is an equally awful opening. So in today's newsletter, we will look at five awful ways to begin a speech, and counter them with 10 great ways to begin instead. Here are five awful ways to begin a speech:

- the subject of my presentation is...

- I shall be speaking today about...

- My presentation concerns...

- Today’s topic is...

- Today we are here to give a presentation on...

- Today we are here to talk about...Before we start, I’d like you meet my team members...

- A brief look at today’s agenda...(告诉听众所讲内容的先后顺序)

- Before we start our presentation, let’s take a brief look at the agenda...

- I shall be offering a brief analysis of...

- the main area that I intend to cover in this presentation is...

- Take a moment and think of...

- Thank you for giving me the opportunity to tell you about...

Mr. Chairman, Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen, I should like first of all, to once again thank the Norwegian Nobel Committee for the award they have made to the United Nations Peace-Keeping Operations. Their decision has been acclaimed all over the world. I take this opportunity also to express once again my deep gratitude to the countries, which have contributed troops or provided logisti[点题式英语演讲开场欣赏(共2篇)]cal support to these operations. It is to their willing co-operation that we owe the success of this great experiment in conflict control. Peace─the word evokes the simplest and most cherished dream of humanity. Peace is, and has always been, the ultimate human aspiration. And yet our history

overwhelmingly shows that while we speak incessantly of peace, our Aquinas tells a very different story. Peace is an easy word to say in any language. As Secretary-General of the United Nations I hear it so frequently from so many different mouths and different sources, that it sometimes seems to me to be general incantation more or less deprived of practical meaning. What we really mean by peace?

和平在任何语言中都是一个说起来很容易的词。作为联合国秘书长,我从不同的语言和不同的地方经常听到它,以至于有时在我看来,和平这个词多多少少是失去了其真实意义的口头禅。我们所说的和平的真正含义是什么? As clothes, food, shelter and travel are the four elements for life;

we can not live without one of them. So is the case with other living things. Maybe other living things can live without one of them, but they are not particular about that much. Bacterium is very tiny living things, like a baby in them. What does the baby have to wear? What does the baby have to eat? Where does the baby live? How does the baby move? We would like to know about these. ?

To me, England is the country, and the country is England. And when I ask myself what I mean by England, when I think of England when I am abroad, England comes to me through my various senses─through the ear, through the eye, and through certain imperishable scents. I will tell you what they are, and there may be those among you who feel as I do. ?

II。 Introducing the Subject and the outline of the Presentation引入话题 Background Information

I would like to start by briefly reviewing the history of open heart surgery。

Let us start with the theoretical basis of this new technique。

To begin with, we have to consider the principle。

I think it would be best to start out by looking at a few slides。

I should like to preface my remarks with a de script ion of the basic idea。

May I begin with a general outline of this project?

The first thing I would like to talk about is the definition of the terms I shall use in my lecture。

The first point I'd like to make is the historical background of the invention。

First, I shall explain to you why this new program is correct and feasible。

Topic

I would like to concentrate on theproblem Of antibiotic abuse in hospitals。

I shall devote my talk to the surgical treatment of coronary disease。

I want to confine my talk to the latest developments in civil engineering。

Today, I am going to give a talk on the application of puters in medicine。

My topic today will deal with the observation of supernova。

In today's talk, I' 11 restrict myself to the etiology of 15-epa~i;s。

In my presentation this morning, I' 11 limit myself to three major points only。

I take the liberty of restricting my discussion mainly to highway bridge construction。

Now, I would like to address myself to the most important aspect of this problem。

Among the many languages, I shall mention only BASIC。

What I am going to present today is the methodology and the data analysis。

I'm not going to say much about that except to discuss the literature on that topic。

Comprehensive Samples

Sample 1

Thank you, Mr。 Chairperson, Mr。 Director-General, distinguished members of the ILO's Governing Body and friends。 I wele this opportunity to be here today, with an Organization which in many ways belongs to all of us workers。 I can think of, in fact, no other international body that one can claim as one's own so unambiguously。

I have also had a longstanding formal association with the ILO。 Many of my early pieces on women and technological change and on land rights were published by the ILO, as well as was the work of many other scholars。 It is therefore a pleasure for me to be here on this important Symposium。

The canvas of the Symposium is very large。 I will focus on two aspects of gender inequality that centrally effect millions of women as workers but perhaps have failed to receive the attention they deserve。 First, the gender gap in mand over property and Productive assets and, second, gender biased social perceptions and social norms。

Sample 2

I learned last May that you have to be careful in speaking to a group of professional municators。 After I conducted a writer' s workshop at the Toronto Conference of the International Association of Business Communicators, Janine Lichaczwrote asked me to speak here tonight and used the munication techniques I had remended。 She even included a footnote citing my lecture。 I am susceptible to good munication and to flattery so I am pleased to be with you to discuss your topic for the evening, the use of language in the art of speech writing。

I suppose we must begin by shaking our heads, woefully, over the sad state of language today, whether in formal speeches, casual conversation, or in writing。 Most of us in this room no doubt agree with the generally negative tone of Time Magazine's year-end assessment which claims “our language has been besieged by vulgarities”。 But to preserve our sanity as professionals in munication of us would probably join Time in optimistically expecting English somehow to survive and even to prosper。

Expressions on Other Occasions

Correcting the Title of the Presentation

First of all, I would like to mention that the title of my presentation should be 。。。

Please allow me to correct a mistake in the title of my speech which appeared in the program。 Instead of。。。 it should read。。。

Reading。 Another Person's Paper

Sometimes you are selected to read another person's paper, as he or she is absent。

I shall read a paper by Dr。 Li from Guangzhou, china, who regrets that he could not be here。 The title of his paper is。。。

I'm going to read the paper by Dr。 Wang。 It's a great pity that, because of a health problem, he could not be here。

I was asked by the author to read his paper。 He apologizes for not being able to e here。

The next speaker, Prof。 Zhang, regrets that she could not be here and has submitted her paper to me。 I am not sure if I can present it as well as she expected。

I am not sure whether I' 11 be able to be very confident in answering specific questions。 However, I am somewhat familiar with his work, so I' 11 try my best。

Checking the Microphone

First I want to check if all of you can hear me clearly。

Am I speaking clearly and loudly enough for those in the rear of the room?

I wonder if those in the rear of the room can hear me。

If those in the rear of the room can hear me, would someone please raise his hand?

Can you hear me clearly?

Can you hear me if I am away from the microphone?

Is the microphone working?

* Summary-How to Prepare a Good Introduction

Realize file great importance of the introduction of file presentation mad then do your best in delivering it。

Don' t make file introduction either too wordy, or too brief。 Usually, it covers 10 to 15 percent of your entire speech。

Select tile ways to capture the audience attention。

Indicate tile topic。

Outline your Speech。

Announce your purpose。

Prepare several versions of tile introduction, pare them, and then select the best version。 Finally, learn it by heart so as to be able to deliver it easily mid fluently。

Don't start your speech with apologies。

Pay attention to your body language。

Chapter II Developing the Speech Text I。 Announcing the Beginning of the Speech Text

To begin with, I would like to talk about a principle。

I think it would be best to start out by looking at some pictures。

The first thing I would like to talk about is the definition of the terms which I’11 use in my presentation。

II。 Shifting to the Next Main Point

Well, let's move on to the next point。

We will now e to the second problem。

Turning to the next question, I' 11 talk about the stages of the procedure。

As the second topic, I shall stop here。 Now let' s turn our attention to the third topic。

So much for the methodology of our experiment。 I would now like to shift to the discussion of the results。

Now, let's move away from the first part and switch over to the next part of my presentation。

That's all for the introduction and now we can go on to the literature review。

Next, I would like to turn to a more difficult problem。

The next point I'd like to talk about is the feasibility of this project。

That brings me to my second point。

I am glad that we can now leave this rather boring subject of mathematic deduction and go into a more attractive one, that is the application of the formula。

III。 Resuming the Topic

Let' s e back to what I said in the first part of my speech。

Getting back to the subject of the problem of theoretical considerations we can find that。。。

I want to return to the first part of my presentation。

Now, to get back to the effect of temperature, you may be aware that the problems have been solved。

This brings me back to the question of security。

At this point I would like to refer again to the question of methods in the first part of my lecture。

Referring again to the first question, I think。。。

Referring to the Coming Point

I'll deal with it later。

I' 11 touch upon that point in a moment。

I shall tell you in detail shortly。

IV。 Introducing the Supporting Materials

I think this part is the most difficult, so I'll explain it in greater detail。

I think this part of my paper is most important, so I plan to spend more time on it。

Please allow me to deal with this matter more extensively。

Being the most important part of my presentation, I will elaborate on it with more slides。

I' 11 expand this topic with drawings and figures。

Indicating the Points Briefly

Limited by the time available, I can only give you a very brief account of this matter。

I don't think that I should describe the methods in detail, because they are included in the handout。

I will not go into detail on it。

This point has been talked about repeatedly in this symposium, so I am not going to spend too much time on it。

Let's go through the following points very rapidly。

I just want to outline for you what I experienced in using this new drug。

I shall not go over all these explanations。 My time is running short。 So I'’11 be brief。

It is sufficient to say that these experiments were poorly designed and without controls。

V。 Repairing a Slip of Tone

The first of such experiments began in 2000, rather than 1999。

May I have the lights, I mean the slides。

The temperature increased, I shall say decreased。

The population is 13 million, sorry, 31 million。

The exchange rate dropped from 2。5 to 1。8, I beg your pardon, 1。9。

As you can see from the first row, excuse me, the second row, that the output increased two fold。

VI。 Expressions Concerning Audio-Visual Aids

Could we have the lights off? And the first slide, please。

Lights off, first slide, please。

Dim the lights, and first slide, please。

The slide is not so clear。 Please darken the room a little more。

Could you please turn on the lights, please?

Now, we can have the lights on。

Please switch on the lights。

Lights on, please。

I apologize that this slide is not so clear, but I hope you can still make out the general idea。

Sorry for the small print。

I'm sorry we left a figure out here。

Time flies. Our English speaking congtest has reached the end. Let's welcome professor Wang to give us some comments.

conversation starters on internet chat sites

“嗨,我在网上遭遇了各种各样的奇人。” “man, i”ve met some pretty weird characters online.“(八卦一下你在网上遭遇的奇人,不仅是开心的谈资,同时也打消对方的顾虑:你不是怪人。不过并不是所有人都喜欢评价别人,如果你觉得这个话题并不是你想聊的,也不要紧,你只需顺势转换话题,比如 ”it takes all kinds to make a world. what are your hobbies?“这个转移话题的方法可以以此类推用到其他时候。)

“稍等一下,有些工作要做。” ”brb, gotta get some work done.“(brb= be right back,稍等。 类似的借口还有”brb, need to go pick up a friend“,理由越空越好,空得让他插不上话。如果太”实在“,比如 ”get a phone call or go to an event“,会成为对方搭讪的入口,脸皮厚的.

”thanks for listening, i really felt at ease talking to you.“(如果你聊得开心,直白地表达吧,特别是对偶然遇见的网友。如果对方跟你这么说,你可能会有点不好意思,即使你感觉不好也不必拒绝,你可以说 ”hey, no problem. feel free to look me up whenever you need to talk.“)

conversation starters at clubs

“和朋友一起来的么?” ”so who“re you here with?”(通常是男生问女生,这么问其实是打探对方是不是来约会的。 如果搭讪的男生让你不感兴趣,你可以说:“oh, i”m here with a friend. he“s back there. see him?” 如果你确实是被异性约来的,但是不太情愿,而对眼前这位还颇有感觉,你可以说“oh, i shared a cab with a friend who”s still dancing. would you like to get a drink?“)

“这里的酒保手艺不错。” ”the bartenders here make some pretty good mojitos.“(如果你不好意思主动邀请对方喝酒,你可以这样委婉地试探,如果对方有意思,他要么让你买酒给他,或者请你喝一杯。

“is it usually this crowded?”(这实际是在试探对方是不是老出来玩儿。如果你不想让别人知道你的情况,你可以说:“oh, i can still hear you/there are enough people.”
